Remembering Through Pictures
Quite some time ago I read an article in Parent’s magazine which highlighted a woman who took a photo every year of her daughter in the same swimsuit until the swimsuit fit. It was a cute idea and a project that lasted for 14 years. I found the idea so creative and something that I could do. I’m creative like that! But, no, I’m not doing anything wonderful like that.
I can’t help sometimes to look at photos of myself just a few years ago and see the difference of age in my face. Five years ago I still looked like I was 16 but today I finally look my age. I wish I had more photos from my childhood to compare what life and age has done to my face.
Zadey has more pictures of herself then she’ll ever know what to do with. I always thought I’d be that super Mom that was on top of not only pictures but photo albums. Zadey has neither but very nicely organized folders on my external hard drive that conical her life from day 1 to today placed in order by date. And there are THOUSANDS for a little girl that’s just shy of 2 years old.
She’ll always have the chance to compare how she’s changing over the years.
But one of my favorite things to do is capture moments via camera or video as they are happening. Right now, she loves doing a dance from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse that Daisy does. She knows it by heart. Next week she might do something else really awesome and the Daisy dance will be gone. So, I get it on video now so that 25 years from now I can just hit play and see the Daisy dance anytime I want.
When it comes to swimming, I always love to get shots of her in the pool but she never lasts long. She’s so tiny that her little body just shivers if we’re in the pool too long, it doesn’t matter how hot it is outside this baby is cold in the water.
Recently, I discovered that if she can just float around and catch more sun she can have the best of both worlds. She’s not cold, she’s in the pool, and she’s making contact with clorine which I have to tell you has been the best thing in the world for her eczema!

I have to say that we have thousands of photos of our kids and special times on my hard drive - don’t laugh but I just downloaded photos from Conner’s birth in 2005 but sadly, have not actually printed any yet. Is that terriable or what? I do scrap them into digital layouts but haven’t created an actual book that makes me happy - so again, those just sit on my hard drive. But I agree with Sarah about digi cameras and such making it just too easy to snap and share. Zadey is getting big!!

Madi and Ethan do the Disney Clubhouse dances :)
With the invention of the digital camcorder, and digital cameras, and now, cellphones, family and friends are able to catch moments that when we were younger weren’t even thought of being able to get. I think that’s one of the biggest advantages that kids have these days.
Don’t feel bad that Zadey doesn’t have albums. Mine don’t have them either. The pictures, like yours, are all sitting on an external hard drive, or sitting on CDs, as back-ups from before the old computer died. They’re blessed in that way: if a print-out of their picture gets ruined, all we have to do is print out another. It’s hard to do that with pictures when we were younger (and, god, I feel old saying that, XD).
